Frequently Asked Questions

  • We accept laptops, workstations (desktops), Chromebooks, and mobile devices:

    • Device Age: Devices up to 10 years old.

    • Working Condition: Devices should power on and have functional screens, keyboards, and trackpads (cosmetic damage is completely fine).

    • Battery Life: Batteries should hold at least 30 minutes of charge, or devices must work when plugged in.

    IMPORTANT:

    • Apple devices should be fully reset and unlocked from iCloud prior to contribution.

    • Chromebooks should be fully deprovisioned from school administration prior to contribution.

If you have specific device types in mind, contact us for eligibility details.

  • Contact us through our website or email to express your interest. We’ll arrange a consultation to discuss your IT asset turnover needs, create a tailored contribution plan, and formalize the partnership with a contribution agreement.

  • You can securely wipe devices in-house or use our certified data destruction service, which includes a Data Destruction Certificate for compliance and peace of mind.

  • There’s no minimum, and we can accommodate large-scale contributions. Whether it’s a few devices or an entire IT refresh cycle, we’ll coordinate the process smoothly.

  • In the Greater Toronto Area, we arrange direct pickups at your convenience.

For other locations nationally or within the USA, we have partnered with UPS to provide pre-paid shipping boxes and labels, making the process simple and cost-free.

  • Devices are inspected, repaired and upgraded to extend their lifespan. Usable devices are repurposed for educational institutions, nonprofits, and community development programs.

Devices beyond repair are ethically recycled through certified partners.

  • Repurposing means devices are repaired, upgraded, and prepared for reuse, extending their life while minimizing waste. Repurposing maximizes environmental sustainability while creating social value.

Recycling devices involves dismantling them into raw materials, a process that consumes significant energy and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. While it recovers valuable materials, it often undervalues the usability of the original device.

  • Recycling is valuable, but repurposing creates greater social impact. By contributing devices to Mint Chip Computers, your technology is refurbished to reduce e-waste while supporting education, employment, and community development.

This delivers a triple benefit: providing value to institutions in need, optimizing your processes, and closing the economic loop. In turn, this enhances your sustainability goals and reinforces your corporate social responsibility.

  • Yes! We provide detailed contribution reports, including the number of devices received, refurbishment results, sustainability metrics (e.g., e-waste reduction), and community beneficiaries.

  • We can align your device contributions with your IT asset refresh cycles. Contact us to create a recurring partnership plan that fits your organization’s sustainability goals.
